Sea Eagle anchored out at McMicken Island

Sea Eagle anchored out at McMicken Island

On Memorial Day weekend, we took Friday off and headed down to McMicken Island to meet up with a large group of boats out of Olympia. The weather was mild, with just a bit of rain and joining us for their first real cruise in their new Ranger 27 tug were Jeff and Ela on BoboLink. Also on board were Bailey and Brinkley (their dogs).

We rode the flood tide down, so arrived early and just sipped fuel on the way down there. I think Jeff said he burned 2 gallons to cover the 30+ miles. Now THAT is thrifty! 😉

I did get a kick out of watching Jeff and Ela load their BIG dogs in their not-so-big dingy! It was really funny when they took the dogs up to Jarrell’s Cove for a run (about a 90 minute run each way). When they arrived back at Sea Eagle, both dogs were sound asleep in the dingy (see photo). Zzzzzzzzz!

Saturday, the rest of the boats arrived after digging fresh clams at Hope Island. Craig Brown added hand made Fettucini and with help from Teri and Jim we had a huge meal of fresh seafood pasta!

Sunday night, it rained, so everyone piled aboard the Nordhavn for Carne Asada, lots of salads and lots of fun. Of course what happens on Sea Eagle stays on Sea Eagle, so those pictures had to be deleted….

I also heard a knock on the transom during the rainy day, only to find two kayakers asking if I could tow a disabled vessel up to Indian Cove.

There was an elderly couple with a day boat that had broken down. The 5 mile tow (in the dingy) took a little over an hour and we were very wet by the time we returned to Sea Eagle, but I was glad to be able to help out.

Water Filters and UV Purifier.

Spring is in full bloom and the warm weather has boaters out cleaning the winter gunk off their boats. Sea Eagle is no exception, and has been thoroughly washed and waxed this week. I also caught up on some annual maintenance chores, including replacing the water filters and the Ultra Violet lamp on the purifier.

I ran down to the Fuel Dock and took on 600 gallons of fuel ($2200), which should last me the entire year. The fuel tanks are now chock-a-block full (including the Standadyne Fuel additives).

I had also noticed the back of the engine room was very dark when I replaced the Hot Water Heater last month, so installed a bright new LED fixture in place of the old 24 volt dome light. It made a huge difference and makes it MUCH easier to see into my tool box and to work on both the Generator and Wing Engine. It was so bright in fact that I changed all the fluids and filters out on both engines.
