Scott grew up in and around boats, starting with a ten foot, ten horsepower dingy at age 8 while living on Hammersley Inlet in Shelton, WA. The dingy replaced the usual bicycle for getting around and was used to range as far as Olympia, visiting friends. The boats got bigger as Scott got older until he graduated from college with an Ocean Engineering degree and ran off to the oilfield.

Once in the oilfield, Scott worked his way up through every job on the rig until he became the Captain of the 20,000 ton Sedco 702. Those fifteen years on the water cemented his love of the oceans and included two world circumnavigations while working mostly in Southeast Asia.

After leaving the oilfield to go work at Microsoft, Captain Boyd missed the oceans, so began Scuba Diving and exploring beneath our liquid world. That fascination with water lead to jobs working as Captain of a 41′ Custom Aluminum Dive Charter Boat (the Mark V, below), Professional Underwater Photography, Television gigs, Submarines, ROV’s and even a book on Wreck Diving in the Pacific Northwest.

Exploring the deep wrecks and underwater caves of the world kept Scott busy for another 15 years until he became interested in extending the reach of those explorations. While looking to increase the range and comfort of his boats, he fell in love with seaworthy trawler designs. That lead to selling the dive boats and purchasing a 47′ Nordhavn Trawler. That trawler was Scott’s Home Base for several years as he lived aboard, while exploring the beautiful fjords of the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia and Alaska.

Scott then moved back ashore, sold the Nordhavn and purchased a Grand Banks Eastbay that makes weekend trips a breeze and runs up to the San Juan Islands possible in a single day.
