Sea Eagle, lit up with Xmas lights for New Years

Sea Eagle, lit up with Xmas lights for New Years

New Years eve was a bit soggy and foggy but we decided to take Sea Eagle out for the evening. We cruised over to Gig Harbor and found the deeper sections of the Public Dock to be full of boats. With a minus 3′ tide expected at night, I decided to squeeze the boat in near the end of the dock by spinning her around in a very small fairway and drifting right in between two boats.

There was a beautiful 53′ Selene named ‘Zuma’ on the dock and the crew came out to help us with our dock lines. It turns out they had recently purchased the boat in San Diego and brought her up the coast to Seattle. It also turns out that we have the same last name (Lyman and Janeane Boyd), which is quite a coincidence! We shared some Sea Stories and enjoyed their company.

For dinner, we walked on down the Tides Tavern, which is a Gig Harbor landmark that has been serving food on the waterfront since 1973. The service is always great, the food is good and they have new docks which are very nice to stop by for lunch or dinner if you are in the area.

We have been to the Tides Tavern many times, including with a Travel Channel film crew when we did an episode of Off Limits and filmed the host diving on the Wreck of the Mosquito Fleet Steamer Burton, which caught fire and sank right off of the Public Docks right next to the Tides Tavern.

After dinner, we enjoyed the Christmas lights along the water and rang in the New Year on Sea Eagle. It just doesn’t get any better than life on a boat.
